Uthradam Thirunal Pampa Boat Race |
The uthradam Thirunal Pampa Boat Race is held on Pampa
river at Neerattupuram in Alappuzha district Kerala, India. The race is started
on the year 1957 and it is conducted every year since then. No other water
sports in the world have this much number of participants in a team. Uthradam
Thirunal Pampa Boat Race is unique for the verities of snake boats
participating in this event (Chundan, Odi, Veppu and Churulan).
Many spectators around the globe come to watch
this fabulous snake boat race (an Integral part of Kera’s Culture). The Oarsmen
rows through the pampa river by sprinkling the water both sides, they paddle as
one with the old folk songs called ‘Vanjipattu’.
