Especially during this corona issues time, we salute our nurses, who willing to give their lives and service for those who is in need.

IS INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY IS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY?

International Nurses Day is not a public holiday. It is an observance day.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has started celebrating this day form 1965 onwards.

In 1953 Dorothy Sutherland, an official with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, proposed the President Dwight D. Eisenhower announce officially a "Nurses' Day" but unfortunately that was not approved at that time.

In January 1974, 12 May was chosen because it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. She is the founder of modern nursing. Each year, International Council of Nurses(ICN) prepares and distributes the International Nurses' Day Kit. The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses all over the world.

From 1998, 12 May was officially designated as annual National Student Nurses' Day.
