festival to celebrate the birth anniversary
of Mahatma Gandhi,The day intends to pay tribute to the Father of the
Nation as well as remember his courageous activities on the way of independence
struggle for the country from British rule.

Mahatma Gandhi, also known as
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869 in a small town Porbunder, Gujarat. Gandhiji
was a
lawyer and obtained his law degree from U.K and practiced in South Africa. He
fought continuously British rule for the independence of India throughout his
life until India got independence.
Gandhi
developed the novel technique of non-violent protest, which he called
"Satyagraha", translated as "moral domination". He was extremely against to smoking, drinking, and
non-vegetarianism. At this day the selling of alcohol has been completely
banned for one whole day by the government of India.
The
nation mourned for him after he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu
nationalist, on January 30, 1948 by firing three
bullets into his chest.
