POORAM?

Nakshatra in the Malayalam Calendar month of Medam.
THRISSUR POORAM HISTORY
The Arattupuzha festival was the only major festival celebrated in Kerala
before the Thrissur Pooram celebration, Arattupuzha festival was held ten kilometers
to the south of Thrissur and It was a one day festival in which most Thrissur
temples took part.
One day, due to the heavy rains, many couldn’t
reach Arattapuzha festival on time. Because they arrived late, they weren’t
allowed into the temple premises. The humiliated temple officials informed Sakthan
Thampuran about what had happened. In 1798, he unified the 10 temples
situated around Vadakkunnathan Temple and organised the celebration of Thrissur
Pooram as a mass festival which is bigger
and more overgenerous than the Arattupuzha Pooram.
Sakthan Thampuran himself planned every little detail of the
Pooram, including ordaining the participating temples into two groups namely
"Paramekkavu side" and "Thiruvambady side", headed by
principal participants Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple and Thiruvambadi Sri
Krishna Temple respectively. Now, after more than 200 years later, the
Pooram still follows the format set by the king.
