INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE DAY
The International Day of Cooperatives acknowledges and
reaffirms the role of cooperatives in economic, social and cultural development
and in the achievement of social policy objectives.
The day also aims to increase awareness among cooperatives, as well as
to support and expand partnerships between the international cooperative
movement and other supporting organizations including governments.

INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE DAY HISTORY
The United Nations accepted and reaffirmed that cooperatives
were very important in the world's economic, social and cultural development in
1994. Conversely two years prior on December 16, 1992 the UN General Assembly
proclaimed the first Saturday of July 1995 as the International Day of
Cooperatives, marking the centenary of ICA's establishment.
WHAT DO PUBLIC DO
ON INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE DAY
1. Translating messages from the International Cooperative
Alliance (ICA) and the UN into local languages for worldwide distribution
2. Spreading awareness news papers and radio
3. Arranging contests and campaigns focused on the topics related to the day
4. Meetings with government officials
5. Sponsor events and concerts

THEME FOR INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE DAY 2018
“Sustainable
consumption and production of goods and services” is the theme for the
International Day of Co-operatives 2018.
