        Every year 12th May is celebrated as International Nurses Day (IND) across the world to honor the contributions nurses has done to the society.
Nurses play a vital role in our medical institutions such as
          °          Being responsible for the welfare
          °          Safety and recovery of the patients.
          °          Help in bringing a new life into the world
          °          Care tirelessly for the sick and injured

WHY INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY IS ON 12TH MAY
International nurses day is on 12th may because the day is declared to be renowned as the birthday anniversary of the founder of modern nursing, the Florence nightingale.
Florence Nightingale was known as the foundational philosopher of the modern nursing, and was born on 12th of May in 1820.

history of INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 
Nurses Day was first proposed in 1953 by the Dorothy Sutherland, an officer from the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare and first proclaimed by the President Dwight D. Eisenhower. And by the year 1965, International Council of Nurses (ICN) started celebrating International Nurses day every year.

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY THEME FOR 2018 

IND theme for 2018 is “Nurses a voice to lead - health is a human right”

Every year the International Council of Nurses (ICN) chooses a new theme  and  they prepares and distributes the International Nurses Day Kit. This kit contains educational and public information materials, to be used by nurses everywhere.

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY CELEBRATION

Every year International Nurses Day is celebrated by organizing a candle lamp service in Westminster Abbey, London.

A candle lamp is handed over from one nurse to another which symbolizes to pass the knowledge from one nurse to another and place it on the High Altar.

          Also a big ceremony will be performed at the St. Margaret’s Church, the Florence Nightingale burial place, a day after her birthday.

  1. Take time to thank a nurse who has been there during days of sickness.
  2. Give gifts to nurses.
