internationally recognized for
highlighting and focusing the work of midwives.The day intends to increase the
awareness about the contribution of the midwives towards the patients all over
the world and to honor the midwives for their big contribution towards the
health of their nations.

WHAT IS MIDWIVE’S
A midwife is a profession specializing in
· Pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum
· Women's sexual and reproductive health
· Newborn care
· Trained to recognize the variations of normal progress of labor
· To provide care to childbearing women
INTERNATIONAL
MIDWIVES' DAY HISTORY
International Midwives' Day was observed since 5th
may 1991 following the suggestions and discussion among Midwives Associations
in the late 1980s. it was made official from 1992, with the
theme “Towards safe birth for all by the year 2000”.
WHY INTERNATIONAL MIDWIVES DAY IS CELEBRATED
It is reported that
,every year approximately 350 000 women are dying due to pregnancy hazards or
during child birth, around 2 million newborns babies are dying just after their
birth or within 24 hours of birth and around 2.6 million of the cases are stillbirths.
These death rates would be prevented by adding some precautions and safety
measures to the pregnant women and new born babies.
International Day of the Midwife has been started celebrating
every year to increase awareness about the roles of midwives as well as to
fulfill the increasing needs of more midwives all over the world
