World Health Day
April
7th World health day ,it is
celebrated annually under the leadership of World Health Organization(WHO). The objective of this day is to draw attention
towards important health issues facing the world each year. It is also celebrated to remember the establishment
of the World health Organization
In 1948, the First World Health Assembly was held by the
World Health Organization and from 1950 the Assembly decided to celebrate World
Health Day on 7th April of each year. The day is celebrated annually with different themes.Every
year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area
of concern for WHO. ‘Universal Health Coverage’ is the theme for 2018.
Global
Polio Eradication was one of the special
themes of the year 1995 of world health day. From then, most of the countries
have become free of this fatal disease whereas in other parts of the world its
awareness level has increased. The organization plays a major role in addressing serious health
issues such as polio, smallpox, chickenpox etc.
On this day several programs are organized at various
places like schools, colleges and other crowded places.NGOs including various
health organizes programmes relating to the public health issues and awareness
at many places. Debates on related topics, art exhibitions, essay writing,
competitions and award ceremonies also take place on World Health Day.
